Side Chair Chair
This is a chair. We acquired it in 2006. Its medium is red walnut, silk damask (modern). It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
With deeper rococo carving on the crest than is common in English chairs, this example, with its hairy paws, may have been made for a Scottish or Irish patron. It is most similar to chair designs published by Robert Manwaring in the 1750s.
This object was featured in our Object of the Week series in a post titled Sitting on Sculpture.
