Candy Wear Tiara

This is a Tiara. It was designed by Daniel Jocz. It is dated 2000 and we acquired it in 2016. Its medium is copper, electroformed, assembled and soldered silver covered in electrostatically applied rayon flocking bonded with adhesive. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This brightly colored tiara and related pieces from Jocz’s Candyware series (2016-34-49 and 2016-34-50-a/c), remind both wearer and viewer that one of the most important aspects of jewelry is enjoying what you wear. These bold forms convey a sense of fun with their simple shapes covered in neon-colored flocking, an unconventional material with a soft, fuzzy texture.

This object was donated by Susan Lewin. It is credited The Susan Grant Lewin Collection, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
