Verso, inscribed in pen and ink: "quando promesso uno di ferire con una sola freccia / piede e l'orecchio del cervio tenne questo modo. / Ebbe pronte dua freccie, e con la prima li tocco un / poco l'oreccio, il cervio pensando che fussi o / mosca o cosa simile lo comincio a grattare col piede. / All' hora l'arciere li passo con l'altra freccia solo / il piede insieme, e l'oreccio questo fu in Persia" [in the hand of Luigi Alamanni]
