Coins on Simulated Alligator Skin Matchsafe

This is a Matchsafe. It was manufactured by Gorham Manufacturing Company. It is dated 1888 and we acquired it in 1980. Its medium is silver. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

It has the following markings

Lion passant, anchor, upper case gothic "G" and STERLING all stamped on front bezel; small impressed date mark: star in a circle for 1888, and 450 both stamped on reverse bezel.
