Drawing, Study for "Keep Well"
This is a Drawing. It was designed by E. McKnight Kauffer and made for (as the client) Eno's Fruit Salt. It is dated 1934 and we acquired it in 1963. Its medium is airbrush and white and blue gouache on blue paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
Edward McKnight Kauffer was an American designer who moved to London just before World War I and stayed until the advent of World War II. Inspired by cubist painting and collage, Kauffer often combined illustration with halftone reproductions of photographic elements—traditional lithography was his preferred means of reproduction. Cooper Hewitt’s extensive collection of Kauffer’s drawings and designs illuminates his process.
