Drawing, 28th Annual Exhibition of Advertising and Editorial Art
This is a Drawing. It was designed by Edward McKnight Kauffer and made for (as the client) The Museum of Modern Art and Art Directors Club. It is dated April 8, 1948 and we acquired it in 1963. Its medium is brush and yellow, white, and black gouache on paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
By the time E. McKnight Kauffer was hired to create the graphics for the 28th Annual National Exhibition of Advertising and Editorial Art in 1949, he had a longstanding relationship with The Museum of Modern Art in New York. While he was still living in London, Kauffer had a one-man show at MoMA in 1937—the first monographic show at the museum to feature a graphic designer.
