Drawing, Rebecca and Eliezer at the Well
This is a Drawing. It was created by Jan van der Straet, called Stradanus. It is dated ca. 1580–1605 and we acquired it in 1901. Its medium is recto: pen and brown ink, brush and brown wash on laid paper verso: pen and brown ink, brush and brown wash over black chalk on laid paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
Binding Evidence: At least twenty-nine irregularly spaced stitching holes run along the bottom edge of the sheet. Blank space along that same margin on both recto and verso suggests that the sheet was bound into a sketchbook when the drawings were made.
It is credited Museum purchase through gift of various donors.
