Drawing, Triumphal Arch

This is a Drawing. It was created by Jan van der Straet, called Stradanus and collaborator: Luigi Alamanni and subject: Dante Alighieri. It is dated late 1580s - 1590s and we acquired it in 1901. Its medium is recto: pen and brown ink on laid paper verso: pen and brown ink, brush and brown wash on laid paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

It is credited Museum purchase through gift of various donors.

Verso, inscribed in pen and ink: " [A] di 3 [?] de disembre 1587 Io gioanni strada fiamigho son convenuto queste di co(n) Me(sser) Louigi Allemani de fargli 25 disegni del i[n]ferno di dante secondo che da lui sara ordinato della grandessa e qualita de quelli gia da me fatte e me arebbe pagare lire quattordici di luono sia obligato pagarlo duo el mese come io hara cosigniato."
