Mactron F1 Cigarette Lighter
This is a cigarette lighter. It was designed by Dieter Rams and manufactured by Braun AG. It is dated 1971 and we acquired it in 2017. Its medium is die-cast zinc, plated metal, plastic. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
This Mactron F1 lighter by Dieter Rams has a patented system by which the ignition rotates out of the contour of the lighter casing horizontally with the press of the user’s thumb, allowing the lighter to be operated single-handedly. Rams, who enjoyed designing lighters as small sculptural objects that were pleasing to look at and hold, thought through these placements, considering wrist and hand motion for comfort and use.
