Proyecto Rehabitar
This is a Project. It was architect: Eduardo Bekinschtein, Lucía E. Calcagno and Domingo Pablo Risso Patron. It is dated 2008–2013.
In response to a housing shortage in the 1970s and 1980s, the Argentine government built scores of housing developments across the country that have since deteriorated. Tearing the structures down and rebuilding would temporarily displace up to a million residents and be cost-prohibitive. Proyecto Rehabitar (the “Rehabilitation Project”) proposes to integrate buildings with the city, generating more effective public spaces and engaging communities. The grid of city roads ends abruptly at the barrio, but new routes through the neighborhood will connect it with the city grid. Improved pedestrian connections between buildings and refurbished interior spaces will improve quality of life and ensure better integration with the city.
