No. 12, from Striped Ming series
This is a No. 12. It was designed by Hans Tan.
This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Hans Tan as part of Beauty—Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial.
To create his Striped Ming series, Tan masks some portions of a piece of traditionally decorated porcelain; he carefully sandblasts the unmasked areas to reveal the delicate white porcelain below. The randomly placed stripes create an active surface.
It is credited Courtesy of Hans Tan.
