Tunic, Pants, Headwrap, Neck Scarf, Bracelets, And Earrings
This is a Tunic, pants, headwrap, neck scarf, bracelets, and earrings. It was designed by Naima Muhammad and made for House of Coqueta.
This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco as part of Contemporary Muslim Fashions.
Naima Muhammad first started using African wax-print fabrics after a trip to Ghana in 2013, when she received a piece of “Angelina,” a classic Vlisco print, print from her mother-in-law. In consideration of modesty, she combines the vivid patterns with high collars, long skirts, and wide-leg and parachute-style pants.
It is credited Courtesy of Naima Muhammad .
This object was previously on display as a part of the exhibition Contemporary Muslim Fashions.
