Efesto Textile, from De Natura Fossilium collection

This is a Efesto textile. It was designed by Formafantasma, Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin. It is dated 2014. Its medium is basalt fiber, cotton.

The Efesto textile utilizes fibers created from basalt, a volcanic stone that is commonly produced from the lava of Mount Etna in Sicily, an active volcano. These basalt fibers are woven into a white cotton ground to create both figurative and natural shapes. Formafantasma, founded by Trimarchi and Farresin in 2009, explore the origins, production, and contemporary narratives of materials throughout their work.
