Chef De Piece (France)

This is a Chef de piece. It was company: Jacques de Mainville. It is dated 1782–99 and we acquired it in 1994. Its medium is plain weave cotton and its technique is block-printed with blocks for two reds, black, two purples, brown and mustard. edges of blocks visible in picotage areas. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was donated by Cora Ginsburg. It is credited Gift of Cora Ginsburg.

Its dimensions are

A. Warp: 4 cm (1 1/2in.). Weft:46cm (18in.) B. Warp: 42cm (16 1/2in.). Weft: 32cm (12 1/2in.) Pattern: Not present.

It has the following markings

There are stamps on A: "MANAFACTURE D'OLIVET PRES OR.."in black (negative on positive), and "JLH" in black within box and tow undecipherable initials in black.
