General Electric Hi-Speed Calrod Moderne Iron
This is a Iron. It was manufactured by General Electric Company. It is dated ca. 1937 and we acquired it in 1993. Its medium is cast and polished steel, molded phenolic resin. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
A thermostatic iron with a phenolic resin handle contoured for ergonomic comfort, this design was produced at least as early as the mid-1930s making it an early example of streamlining. General Electric continued to produce other more conservative designs but sold the Moderne as a top-of-the-line iron.
It is credited Gift of Carole Krohn.
