Cruet Set Cruet Set, 1765

This is a cruet set. It was attributed to John Delmester. It is dated 1765 and we acquired it in 1981. Its medium is silver, glass. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Cruet stands held bottles of condiments and seasonings, sauces and spices, such as oil or vinegar, dry mustad, catsup (ketchup ), soy, and tarragon. Today, metal, glass, or plastic dispensers reflect the basic form of these earlier luxury items. (Tools for the Table, 1993).

This object was donated by William M. Cahn, Jr. and Mrs. William M. Cahn, Jr.. It is credited Gift of Mr. and Mrs. William M. Cahn, Jr. in memory of Rosalie S. and William M. Cahn.
