Escape Map (USA), 1943

This is a Escape map. It is dated 1943 and we acquired it in 1981. Its medium is rayon and its technique is printed on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

"Escape and Evasion" maps were given to airmen during World War II to avoid capture behind enemy lines. Orignally printed on silk, blocked supply lines forced the development of a suitable substitute. This map is printed on rayon, a lightweight and durable alternative.

This object was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Simeon Braguin. It is credited Gift of Mr. and Mrs. Simeon Braguin.
