Chintz Fragment (India)

This is a Chintz fragment. It is dated 18th century and we acquired it in 1973. Its medium is cotton and its technique is outline of pattern drawn on; mordants for 2 reds and 2 purples applied by pen or brush (sometimes over resist); madder dyed; blue applied by immersion over resist; chintz on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was donated by Josephine Howell. It is credited Gift of Josephine Howell.
