Cap Crown (Belgium)
This is a Cap crown. It is dated early 18th century and we acquired it in 1962. Its medium is linen and its technique is bobbin lace, brussels style. It is a part of the Textiles department.
Instead of connecting bars, the bobbin-made motifs of this early 18th century Brussels-type lace are held together by a net which was added after the motifs were made. Nets are an important feature of other types of laces of the 18th and 19th centuries.
