Drinking Vessel with Banqueting Youths Kylix
This is a Kylix. It is dated 5th century BC and we acquired it in 1959. Its medium is red-figured earthenware. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Unearthed in large quantities in eighteenth-century archaeological digs and avidly collected by Europeans, vessels such as this Greek Kylix had a profound influence on the forms and decoration of Western ceramics. (Treasures from the Collection, 2003)
