Clasp Clasp

This is a clasp. It is dated 1860 and we acquired it in 1957. Its medium is silver. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by Estate of Mrs. Lathrop Colgate Harper.

Its dimensions are

H x W x D (clasp closed): 5 × 10.2 × 0.9 cm (1 15/16 in. × 4 in. × 3/8 in.) H x W x D (clasp open): 9.7 × 10.2 × 0.9 cm (3 13/16 in. × 4 in. × 3/8 in.)

It has the following markings

On exterior face, at top left: [1] "AT" over "64", in rectangle, stamped (maker's mark) On exterior face, at bottom left: [1] Minerva head with letter "M", stamped (Schoonhoven duty mark) On either side of inner frame bar: [1] "AT" over "64", in rectangle, stamped (maker's mark) [2] lower case "a" in circle, stamped (Dutch date letter for 1860) On exterior reverse, at center, bottom: [1] "AT" over "64", in rectangle, stamped (maker's mark)
