Shawl (India)
This is a Shawl. It is dated 19th century and we acquired it in 1954. Its medium is wool and its technique is interlocking twill tapestry weave, embroidery. It is a part of the Textiles department.
The embroidered cones in the four corners of the center field were a common decoration known as kunjbutā. The embroiderer used the same color palette as in the woven areas to maintain uniformity.
