This is a Candelabrum. It was manufactured by Edward Barnard & Sons. It is dated 1832–1846 and we acquired it in 1952. Its medium is silver. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

On base of central candlestick and stem (-100-a): [1] “E E” over “B” over “J W” into a quatrefoil, stamped (maker’s mark, Edward, Edward Jr, John and William Barnard) [2] letter “r”, stamped (date letter mark 1832) [3] leopard’s head, stamped (London town mark) [4] lion passant, stamped (British standard mark) [5] king's head, stamped (sovereign head duty mark) On ends of branch arms -100-c and -e: [1]“STERLING”, stamped (standard mark) On end of branch arm -100-d: [1] fracture letter “L”, stamped (date letter mark 1846) [2] leopard’s head, stamped (London town mark) [3] lion passant, stamped (British standard mark) Branch arm -100-b: Unmarked On sides of bobeches -f, -g, and -j: [1] “E E” over “B” over “JW” into a quatrefoil, stamped (maker’s mark, Edward, Edward Jr, John and William Barnard) [2] letter “r” stamped (date letter mark 1832) [3] lion passant, stamped (British standard mark) [4] king's head, stamped (sovereign head duty mark) On sides of bobeches -100-h and -i: [1] “E J” over “B” over “W” into a quatrefoil, stamped (maker’s mark, Edward Jr, John and William Barnard) [1] fracture letter “L”, stamped (date letter mark 1846) [2] leopard’s head, stamped (London town mark) [3] lion passant, stamped (British standard mark) [4] queen’s head, stamped (sovereign head duty mark) Note: The majority of candelabrum 1952-166-100-a/j’s ten components date to 1832, however, branch arm component -100-d is stamped with fracture letter “L” (date letter for 1846), as are bobeches -100-h and -i that are also stamped with queen’s head sovereign marks. These three components were produced in 1846, the period after the retirement of Edward Barnard Sr, when the firm continued under his sons Edward Barnard Jr (1846-1851), John Barnard (I) (1846-1868), William Barnard (1846). Branch arms -100-c and -e stamped, "STERLING" may date later.
