Scenic, Serenade
This is a Scenic. It was designed by Ilonka Karasz and made by Katzenbach and Warren, Inc.. It is dated 1948–50 and we acquired it in 1951. Its medium is blueprint process on paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.
A prolific designer across different media, Ilonka Karasz was very aware of Asian art, as can be seen in this panel. The work bears resemblance to the Safavid structure of idealized space and geometric patterns. The surfaces have a textured look—a technique she often employed in her wallpaper designs.
