Table Candlestand
This is a Table candlestand. It is dated 19th century and we acquired it in 1941. Its medium is wood, wrought iron. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
In eighteenth century rooms, a single candle made of dipped or molded wax could keep the gloom at bay. Iron candlesticks with adjustable arms accommodated a variety of focused tasks. Chandeliers with multiple candles were an extravagance reserved for the wealthy or special occasions.
