Drawing, Design for the Elevation of a Triumphal Arch

This is a Drawing. It was attributed to Antonio Maria Ricca. It is dated 1750–75 and we acquired it in 1938. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

During 1795-1799, France was governed by a five-member committee known as the Directory. To signalize its accession to power, it launched aggressive military action against England, Sardinia, and Austria. The Italian campaign was under the command of the little-known general, Napoleon Bonaparte, who through his brilliant strategies delivered the peninsula into the hands of the French. The Cisalpine and Ligurian Republics were then created in Italy.

It is credited Museum purchase through gift of various donors and from Eleanor G. Hewitt Fund.
