Mug Depicting Frederick the Great Mug
This is a Mug. It was manufactured by Royal Worcester. It is dated ca. 1757 and we acquired it in 1936. Its medium is soft paste porcelain, vitreous enamel. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
A portrait of the King of Prussia, Frederick the Great (1712-1786), based on the painting by Pesne, is shown on one side of the mug. A figure of Fame and her attendant are portrayed on the other side, along with banners bearing the names of the victorious battle sites of the king ("The Cooper-Hewitt Collections: A Design Resource," March 26, 1991 - August 30, 1992).
