Drawing, Ornament Composition
This is a Drawing. It was created by P. Ludovik and attributed to Pierre-Edmé Babel. It is dated ca. 1745 and we acquired it in 1911. Its medium is pen and brown ink, brush and gray wash, black chalk on white laid paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
An ornament designer and etcher, Pierre-Edmé Babel also supplied sculptured wood ornament to the royal garde-meuble, who supervised the decoration of royal palaces. From the late 1730s, he created many vignettes for books and rococo ornament for prints.
