Fragment (Italy), late 14th century

This is a Fragment. It is dated late 14th century and we acquired it in 1902. Its medium is silk, metallic (beaten gold on vellum wrapped around linen core) and its technique is two integrated plain weave structures (lampas), with discontinuous supplementary weft patterning (brocading). It is a part of the Textiles department.
