Brooch, Jungle Plate Nr. 01, from the Jungle collection

This is a Brooch. It was designed by Terhi Tolvanen.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Marion Fulk as part of Beauty—Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial.

It is dated 2014. Its medium is amber, grapewood, silver, paint.

The organic, flowing tendrils of this brooch resemble both exotic floral forms and coral. The intricate striations of the Thuja wood shapes are anchored in a small silver geometric base. Similar contrasts in form and material recur throughout Tolvanen’s work.
