Ladies’ Old-fashioned Shoes features eleven color-lithographs with captions illustrating historic women’s shoes collected by Scottish historian T. Watson Greig. Each shoe, whose original owners are said to have included such notables as Mary Queen of Scots and Lady Mary Mordaunt, are colorfully and dramatically depicted on separate pages situated on a pillow, tiled floor, or along a baseboard of a room. Captions provide descriptions of the footwear. This illustration is an embroidered silk shoe adorned with lace and a single pearl that was fashionable at the time Charles II (1630–85).
