Drawing, Designs for Paper Porcelain

This is a Drawing. It was designed by Scholten & Baijings, Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings. It is dated February 24, 2009 and we acquired it in 2014. Its medium is pen and black ink, graphite, white and gold edding marking pen, copic marking pen on two sheets of cream wove paper from moleskine notebook. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

The Paper Porcelain series was originally conceived as a project to translate paper models – an integral part of Scholten & Baijings’s process – into porcelain. This two-page concept drawing, cut from the designers’ Moleskine sketchbook, dates to an early period in Scholten & Baijings’s design process, before they produced three-dimensional prototypes. Sketching is an important part of both designers' practice. As they have playfully noted, Baijings tends to draw the cups, and Scholten does the saucers.

It is credited Museum purchase from General Acquisitions Endowment Fund.
