Fireback, Model C
This is a fireback. It was designed by Lockwood de Forest.
This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Molly Seiler as part of Passion for the Exotic: Lockwood de Forest, Frederic Church.
Like other designers during the Aesthetic and Arts and Crafts period, de Forest thought about designs for the complete interior—including firebacks. These cast-iron panels could be arranged in a fireplace to add design continuity and radiate heat.
It is credited Collection of Joe and Molly Seiler.
Its dimensions are
H x W x D 47 x 81.3 x .6 cm (18 1/2 in x 32 in x 1/4 in)
It has the following markings
stamped "Copyright 1884" Lockwood de Forest " on reverse
This object was previously on display as a part of the exhibition Passion for the Exotic: Lockwood de Forest, Frederic Church.
