Greenprint

This is a Project. It was designed by Hood Design Studio and Arup. It is dated 2009–10.

Greenprint, a landscape-based urban design framework, outlines how places like Pittsburgh’s Hill District—a once-thriving African-American community—can retain their identity by building on the existing landscape and cultural resources. Reimagining the set of hilly neighborhoods as a “Village in the Woods,” sites identified by the community as having significant ecological, historic, and cultural worth are the focus of combined design proposals. Walter Hood’s design takes advantage of the area’s reduced urban density and overgrown, abandoned industrial land by identifying value in conserving the emergent natural landscape.
