Sample Book
This is a Sample book. It was distributed by Alfred Peats Company. It is dated 1900 and we acquired it in 2017. Its medium is machine-printed paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.
This sample book was assembled and distributed by the Alfred Peats Company for the year 1900. It is similar in format to the 1898 Alfred Peats book with all of the papers being produced by American wallpaper manufacturers and shown in matched sets of sidewall, border and ceiling papers. This book contains about thirty different patterns with each shown in multiple colorways and with the samples arranged so each paper within a set can be viewed together. The samples are different from those in the 1898 book, the colors are more saturated, the designs are livelier, and many of the borders are printed full width. The price-point on this book is higher. There are also several Lustre papers printed with metallic pigments and bits of mica. The cost of each paper within a matched set is printed on the verso of the sidewall paper and prices range from twenty-seven cents to 12 ½ cents per single roll. The samples are arranged with the highest priced papers on top.
