Alexander Girard’s Manhattan is one of many designs in the mid-century period featuring the rapidly rising skyline of Manhattan. Girard’s is among the most abstract, with simple, floating grids of squares in various sizes standing in for the windows of New York’s skyscrapers. The museum also holds Girard’s original drawing for this design, in ink on tracing paper.
