Window Of Brass Foils, Window with perforated brass plaques
This is a Window of Brass Foils. It was designed by Lockwood de Forest and made by Ahmedabad Wood Carving Company.
This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Taves Family Collection as part of Passion for the Exotic: Lockwood de Forest, Frederic Church.
Although not installed in the window frame during de Forest’s time, this shows the kind of creative use of decorative brass foils that de Forest envisioned. Their arrangement is much like that of brass jalis in a wall, with a variety of similar patterns as was common practice in India.
It is credited Henry Taves and Posy Bass.
