Tiles, Kashmir, from the Distinguished Designer series

This is a Tiles. It was designed by Dorothy Wright Liebes and manufactured by Pomona Tile Manufacturing Company.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Alexa Griffith as part of A Dark, A Light, A Bright: The Designs of Dorothy Liebes.

It is dated 1957. Its medium is glazed stoneware. It is a part of the Exhibitions department.


These colorful ceramic tiles are a durable, two-dimensional iteration of Liebes’s richly textured fabrics. Like the Liebes Weaves wallpaper line, this product reveals how the design industry sought to provide consumers with the Liebes Look at a wide range of price points and product types.
