Tunic

This is a Tunic. It is dated circa 1910 and we acquired it in 2023. Its medium is cotton. It is a part of the department.

This delicate lace and appliqué tunic features a central bird motif with outstretched wings and extended tail, surrounded by flowering branches. The rendering of these elements reflects the stylization of natural forms that characterizes the Art Nouveau style. The lace is designed à disposition, or to shape, with the plant motifs framing the bird and wrapping symmetrically around the body.

It is credited Museum purchase from General Acquisitions Endowment Fund.

Its dimensions are

H x W: 99.1 × 86.4 cm (39 × 34 in.)
