Poster, Section Allemande (German Section), Exposition de la Société des Artistes Décorateurs (Exhibition of the Society of Decorative Arts), Grand Palais
This is a Poster. It was designed by Herbert Bayer.
This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Merrill Berman as part of Herbert Bayer: Bauhaus Master.
This poster promotes an exhibition created by artist and designer László Moholy-Nagy (American, born Hungary, 1895–1946), architect Walter Gropius (German, 1883–1969), and Herbert Bayer in 1930. The exhibition promoted German design, including products and architecture created at the Bauhaus. In Bayer’s poster, intersecting planes define the vast space of the poster, where a tiny human figure stands dwarfed beneath a huge white sphere.
