Fan With Kaleidoscope, Brisé Fan with Kaleidoscope

This is a fan with kaleidoscope. It is dated 1810–1830. Its medium is painted horn, silk, brass, glass, cardboard (case). It is a part of the department.


The carved and elaborately pierced horn sticks of this fan are further embellished with colorful floral decoration. As an added visual amusement, the base houses a tiny cylindrical brass kaleidoscope at the point of juncture. When the fan is closed the sticks align to become a secure handle.

This object was bequest of Ann Hardy. It is credited Bequest of Ann Hardy.
