Underside of vase: [1] “RP”, impressed with 14 flames (manufacturer’s mark; 1900-) [2] “XII”, impressed (date mark; 1912) [3] “CS” conjoined within circle, impressed (decorator’s mark) [4] “2000”, impressed (shape number; 1911-)* [5] “V”, impressed (surface treatment mark, Vellum)** [6] “V”, incised (surface treatment mark, Vellum)** *Shape number 2000 was first created in October 1911 and was produced in only one size. **“V” marks imply that the decorator and kiln master originally intended this object to be finished with the transparent-matte Vellum glaze, but instead this piece was fired in a clear high glaze.
