Poster, Plastics + Design
This is a Poster. It was firm: Mendell & Oberer. It is dated 1998 and we acquired it in 2009. Its medium is screenprint on paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
Pierre Mendell, together with partner and former student Klaus Oberer, has been responsible for developing the Die Neue Sammlung (or the New Collection) museum’s graphic identity since 1980. The bright, fluorescent colors are activated on the page as their dissonance appears to cause the boundaries of the acid tones to blur and shift. Angles and straight lines are almost entirely absent from the composition; the rounded edges of the letterforms are toy-like and suggest a certain playfulness. Toys are commonly made from plastics, which can be dyed to meet almost any specification, and speak to the museum’s large collection of industrially designed objects.
It is credited Gift of Sara and Marc Benda.
Its dimensions are
