Textile (France)

This is a Textile. It is dated 1750–1800 and we acquired it in 1995. Its medium is cotton and its technique is block-printed resist, vat dyed in indigo, on cotton plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was bequest of Elinor Merrell. It is credited Bequest of Elinor Merrell.

Warp x Weft (a): 75.2 x 28.2 cm (29 5/8 x 11 1/8 in.) Warp x Weft (b): 72 x 31 cm (28 3/8 x 12 3/16 in.) Warp x Weft (c): 31.5 x 27 cm (12 3/8 x 10 5/8 in.)

It has the following markings

On back of all three. a, '22' printed and spots of painted white resist b. '?J6' and resist printed 'AMF within a large C' c. '11?73' and 'CC' printed in black on a resist painted spot.
