Overton Compote

This is a Compote. It was manufactured by George Jones & Sons, Ltd.. It is dated ca. 1875–85 and we acquired it in 1999. Its medium is glazed earthenware. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by Brooklyn Museum. It is credited Gift of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Paul F. Walter Collection.

Its dimensions are

H x diam.: 6.5 x 22.5 cm (2 9/16 x 8 7/8 in.)

It has the following markings

On base: impressed illegible mark; in red overglaze: "7901 / 6"; in brown underglaze: "CJ" conjoined over a crescent moon with: "AND SON" / stamp in rhomboid: "IV / 19 / 21 Rd K / I"
