Anemone Giallo Brooch, 1996

Jewelry is created to be worn, forming an active relationship with the body. As a three-dimensional object that adorns the figure, jewelry is usually itself static, and is active only when the body is in motion. Barbara Paganin’s Kinetic series brooch moves independently of the human form; its fronds are encased in beads that sway when set into motion, rubbing against each other, and producing small sounds. This independent motion is inspired by the natural world that Paganin observes around her.
It is credited Museum purchase through gift of Anne McDonnell Ford and bequest of Richard Greenleaf in memory of his mother Adeline Emma Greenleaf.
