Poster, Poetry Readings

This is a Poster. It was designed by Alexander Gelman and made for (as the client) Biblio's. It is dated 1996 and we acquired it in 1998. Its medium is screenprint on orange wove heavy weight paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

Gelman, a Russian-born designer, worked in the United States during the 1990s and early 2000s. His simple icons strive not so much to capture the essence of a subject, but rather to offer an off-kilter view of it. Here, a table lamp represents a poetry reading. The visual illustration is, one might say, beside the point.

This object was featured in our Object of the Week series in a post titled Poetry and Posters.
