This is a Fragment with factory marks. It was company: I & L Simpson. It is dated 1858 and we acquired it in 1996. Its medium is cotton and its technique is roller printed with color added by block on plain weave foundation. It is a part of the Textiles department.

It is inscribed

"I & L SIMPSON FURNITURE PRINTERS SKINNER STREET LONDON" in frame, "Extra Cambric" in script. "MATCH SPRAY", "RED PURPLE OLIVE", "10", "2", and "1858, 31603, 28 in a tripartite frame. All of the above in black. "HMN" twice, one in green, once in ocher.
