Fragment With Factory Stamp (England)
This is a Fragment with factory stamp. It was company: Miles & Edwards. It is dated ca. 1830 and we acquired it in 1996. Its medium is cotton and its technique is block printed on plain weave foundation. block registration marks are visible. blocks for ten different colors were used. four bands of red weft (now faded) were woven into fabric at heading. It is a part of the Textiles department.

It is inscribed
"No 134 Oxford St. MILES & EDWARDS LONDON" with crown within frame in black. On either side of this mark is a block printed anthemion frieze in red. Printers' marks are; "TW" in yellow, and "TC" in blue. Handwritten in ink, "28yds".
