Chef De Piece (France)

This is a Chef de piece. It was company: Gorgerat Frères et Cie.. It is dated 1770–85 and we acquired it in 1994. Its medium is cotton and its technique is printed by engraved copper plate on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was donated by Cora Ginsburg. It is credited Gift of Cora Ginsburg.

Its dimensions are

Warp: 220 cm (86 1/2 in.). Weft: 59 cm (23 1/4 in.) Piece is seamed up the center (correctly according to pattern). No selvedges present. Pattern: Height of repeat and plate: 101 cm (39 3/4 in.)

It has the following markings

Partial stamp at one end:" ON TEINT / reres &Cp a Nantes' and '23'.
